→ LET'S MAKE IT! ♥
1. Preheat the oven.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
2. Prepare the bread.
Place the bread loaf on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife, cut diagonal lines across the top, about 1 inch apart, without cutting all the way through the bottom crust.
Turn the loaf and cut in the opposite direction to create a diamond pattern. The loaf should remain connected at the base so the pieces can be pulled apart after baking.
3. Make the garlic herb butter.
In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Stir well.
4. Fill the bread.
Gently open the cuts in the loaf and drizzle the garlic herb butter into the gaps, allowing it to soak into the bread.
Mix the mozzarella, cheddar, and crumbled bacon together. Carefully stuff the mixture into the cuts, spreading the filling throughout the loaf. Sprinkle any remaining cheese and bacon over the top.
5. Wrap and bake.
Wrap the loaf loosely in aluminum foil, making sure the foil doesn't press tightly against the cheese. Place it on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
6. Uncover for a golden finish.
Open the foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly and the edges of the bread are crisp.
7. Add the finishing touch.
Sprinkle with sliced green onions or a little extra parsley, if desired.
8. Serve warm.
Place the loaf on a serving board and let everyone pull apart their own cheesy, buttery piece while the bread is still warm.
✧ LITTLE SECRETS FOR THE BEST PULL-APART BREAD
✓ Choose a sturdy loaf. Sourdough or crusty Italian bread holds the filling beautifully without becoming too soft.
✓ Don't cut through the bottom. Keeping the base intact helps the loaf hold together while baking and serving.
✓ Use freshly shredded cheese. It often melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
✓ Get the butter into every pocket. Gently separate the cuts with your fingers or a small spoon so the garlic butter reaches the center.
✓ Keep an eye on the final bake. Every loaf is different, so remove the foil once the cheese is melting and watch carefully to prevent the top from becoming too dark.
✓ Want extra flavor? Add a pinch of smoked paprika or a little grated Parmesan to the cheese mixture.
❀ WHAT TO SERVE WITH IT
This cheesy bread is delicious alongside:
✓ A bowl of creamy tomato soup
✓ A fresh garden salad
✓ Chicken wings or grilled chicken
✓ A platter of fresh vegetables with ranch dip
✓ Your favorite pasta dish
It also makes a wonderful appetizer on its own, especially when served with marinara sauce for dipping.
♥ MAKE-AHEAD & STORAGE TIPS
Make ahead: Cook and crumble the bacon, shred the cheese, and prepare the garlic herb butter in advance. Assemble the loaf shortly before baking for the best texture.
Store leftovers: Refrigerate leftover bread in an airtight container within 2 hours of serving and enjoy within 3–4 days.
Reheat: Wrap portions in foil and warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven until heated through. Open the foil for the last few minutes to crisp the bread again.
Helpful tip: This bread is at its best straight from the oven, when the cheese is stretchy and the crust is crisp. For a party, bake it just before serving.
