Introduction
Finding a strange foamy or bubbly mass attached to a fence, plant, or outdoor surface can look alarming at first. In many cases, though, it’s something natural and harmless.
🦗 One Common Cause: Spittlebug Foam
A very common explanation is foam created by Spittlebug nymphs.
These insects produce a frothy substance often called:
“Cuckoo spit”
“Frog spit”
🧪 Why They Make Foam
The foam helps:
Protect them from predators
Keep them moist
Shield them from heat and drying out
Inside the foam is usually a tiny immature insect feeding on plant sap.
