🥚 What that red spot usually is

Most often it’s a blood spot (sometimes called a “meat spot”), which happens when:

A tiny blood vessel in the hen breaks during egg formation

A small amount of blood gets trapped in the yolk or white

It can look:

Red

Dark brown

Rust-colored

It is fairly common and harmless in fresh eggs.

🍳 Is the egg safe to eat?

In most cases: yes.

If:

The egg smells normal

The shell wasn’t cracked before you opened it

The egg doesn’t look spoiled

Then it is generally safe to eat after cooking.

You can:

Scoop out the spot if you prefer

Or just cook the egg normally (heat will destroy any bacteria risk anyway)
