🔎 THE “FINISHED SIDE” RULE
With many traditional wood fences, one side looks smooth and finished, while the other shows the posts, rails, or structural supports.
The finished side is sometimes called the good side or face of the fence.
In many traditional fence designs, the finished side is placed toward the neighboring property or the public-facing side, while the structural side faces inward.
But here’s the important part:
That is not a universal legal requirement.
There isn't one nationwide rule saying every residential fence must have its finished side facing the neighbor.
