🍫🧂 4-Ingredient Poor Man’s Saltine Toffee — The Easy Old-Fashioned Treat Everyone Loves!

👩‍🍳 How to Make It

1️⃣ Prepare the Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and lightly grease it.

Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the bottom of the pan as closely as possible.

2️⃣ Make the Toffee

In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat.

Once the mixture comes to a boil, let it bubble for about 3 minutes, stirring constantly.

It should look smooth, glossy, and caramel-like. 🍯

3️⃣ Pour It Over the Crackers

Carefully pour the hot butter-and-sugar mixture over the crackers.

Use a spatula to spread it into an even layer.

Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect—the oven will work its magic!

4️⃣ Bake

Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 5–7 minutes, until the toffee is bubbling all over.

Keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn.

5️⃣ Add the Chocolate

Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee.

Let them sit for 2–3 minutes until softened.

Then spread the melted chocolate evenly across the top. 🍫

6️⃣ Cool & Break

Let the toffee cool completely.

For a firmer finish, place the pan in the refrigerator until set.

Once hardened, break it into irregular pieces and try not to eat half the batch before putting it on the cookie tray. 😂

✨ Want to Make It Extra Special?

🌰 Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the melted chocolate.

🧂 Add a tiny sprinkle of flaky sea salt for that irresistible sweet-and-salty combination.

🍬 Try crushed peppermint candies for a festive Christmas version.

🤎 Use dark chocolate chips if you prefer a richer flavor.

🎄 Package the pieces in little holiday tins or bags for an easy homemade gift.

💡 A Little Tip

Don't walk away from the toffee while it's boiling.

That buttery brown-sugar mixture can go from perfectly caramelized to burned surprisingly quickly.

And when spreading the chocolate, work while the toffee is still warm so everything melts together beautifully.
