→ LET'S MAKE IT! ♥
1. Prepare your oven.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the bratwurst.
Remove the casings from the bratwurst links if they haven't already been removed.
Place the sausage meat in a skillet over medium heat. Break it into small crumbles and cook until browned and fully cooked, with no pink remaining.
Drain any excess grease and allow the sausage to cool slightly.
3. Add the cheddar.
Transfer the cooked bratwurst to a mixing bowl.
Add the shredded cheddar cheese and stir until evenly combined.
4. Prepare the crescent dough.
Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean surface.
Separate it into triangles along the perforations, then cut each triangle into smaller pieces suitable for wrapping around the filling.
5. Fill and shape the bites.
Place a small spoonful of the bratwurst and cheddar mixture onto each piece of dough.
Fold the dough around the filling and pinch the edges together to seal.
Arrange the bites seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
6. Bake until golden.
Bake for approximately 12–16 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown.
Make sure the sausage filling is piping hot throughout before serving.
7. Serve warm!
Remove from the oven and let the bites cool for a few minutes.
Arrange them on a serving platter and enjoy while the cheddar is still wonderfully melty! ♥
✧ LITTLE SECRETS FOR THE BEST CHEDDAR BRATWURST BITES
✓ Drain the sausage well. Removing excess grease helps keep the crescent dough from becoming soggy.
✓ Let the filling cool slightly. Very hot filling can soften the dough before baking.
✓ Don't overfill. A small spoonful is enough to make each bite delicious while allowing the dough to seal properly.
✓ Use freshly shredded cheddar. It melts beautifully and gives the bites a rich, cheesy flavor.
✓ Seal the edges carefully. This helps keep the filling inside while baking.
✓ Watch the oven near the end. Crescent dough can brown quickly, so check for a golden finish.
❀ DELICIOUS DIPPING IDEAS
These little bites taste wonderful with:
✓ Honey mustard
✓ Dijon mustard
✓ Ranch dressing
✓ Barbecue sauce
✓ Spicy cheese sauce
✓ Creamy garlic dip
♥ MAKE-AHEAD & STORAGE TIPS
Make ahead: Cook and cool the bratwurst filling in advance. Refrigerate it in a covered container, then assemble and bake the bites shortly before serving.
Refrigerate: Store leftover bites in an airtight container within 2 hours of cooking. Keep refrigerated for 3–4 days.
Reheat: Warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 5–8 minutes, or until heated through. This helps bring back some of the crispness.
Freeze: Freeze the assembled, unbaked bites on a tray until firm, then transfer them to a freezer-safe container. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes and checking that the sausage filling reaches 160°F (71°C).
