🛒 Ingredients
2 cups (225 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a traditional Southern kick)
Optional: Add ½ teaspoon salt if using unsalted butter and a mild cheddar.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and cheddar until well combined.
Gradually mix in the flour (and cayenne, if using) until a soft dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a cookie press fitted with a star tip, or roll small ropes by hand.
Pipe or shape strips about 2–3 inches (5–7 cm) long onto the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
